Day 5 – Dinner & Road Trip

Dear Courtney…

Please do not get mad that I still have not gotten the spinach… I was too busy sleeping today.

Dinner Party! 2 Sausages

Dinner Party! 2 Sausages

So.. I finally got some sleep in. I feel pretty tired but I am getting the energy back slowly after the dinner I just had. I am about to take a roadtrip to Fort Worth, tx. It is 3 hours of driving and it sucks that I can’t have food to eat while I’m in the car. Well… I am bringing… freaking STEAMED POTATOE for a road trip. How ghetto is that? One of the readers is actually from Fort Worth and gave me a tip to get cheap bread and peanut butter at Kroger. So I am gonna check to see if I can get cheap Peanut Butter. That would come handy.

The peanut butter is in it’s normal red and blue jars. If you want to look for other cheap stuff at Kroger’s (like maybe smoked sausage for $1.09) it is in these new ugly white packages with the word Value on it.

Other food related stuff to try here:

If your girlfriend lives near Hulen and I-30, check out Central Market. It is one of those places that sells food in bins, if maybe you want to buy just the tiny bit of mung beans or maybe popcorn. They sell other interesting (and usually expensive) stuff that I usually can’t find anywhere else, so you might want to buy some of that to eat after you are finished with this project. Also, on Saturday and Sunday they should have free samples of stuff if you have time to wander around the store.

If your girlfriend lives near Beach street between I-30 and 121, you might have a look at Town Talk. That is a place where they sell cheese that is about to go out of date and stuff that has been repackaged. Some of it is really a good deal, but I’m not sure how much of it will work out with this dollar a day thing. And again, you might want to buy something to eat after this project is over. They get leftover stuff from places like Central Market and mark it down. Town Talk is closed on Sunday.

If your girlfriend lives down the street (not worth a special trip if she doesn’t) from a Braum’s (that’s a place that sells ice cream and hamburgers) you might have a look at the little grocery store area. They sell packaged salads and baby carrots and such. Some of them are in very small bags for about $1.25 (which is still too much on the dollar a day thing), but when the item is about to go out of date, they might put a dollar off coupon sticker on the package. So on a small package that costs $1.25, it would only cost $0.25. I’ve often got lucky like that at my Braum’s, but that might just be that this one store is usually overstocked and not apply to other stores.

    Have a nice weekend.

Yes! Going out on a date to Central Market tonight for mad sampling session. Also thinking about visiting Town Talk later today as well.
      Thanks always for your tips!
